The Death road from La Paz to Coroico, also called The World´s Most Dangerous Road is an amazing 64 Km. bike ride, almost all is downhill and dirty road, there are some trucks on the road and huge cliffs and drops. The rainy season is from December to March but the rest of the year is ok for all levels of riders. You must go with a good tour company to have a great experience and dont have any problems, I can recommend Gravity Assisted, they have the best equipment, small groups and good guides. This adventure is suitable for very confident beginners to experts.
La Ruta de la Muerte de La Paz a Coroico, es una aventura increible, tiene 64 Km., la mayoría del camino es en bajada y con mucha tierra y piedras, hay precipicios y algunoso camiones en el camino. La temporada de lluvias es de Diciembre a Marzo pero el resto del año es recomendable para todos los niveles de ciclistas. Es mejor ir con un buen tour operador para pasarla bien y no tener problemas, yo recomiendo Gravity Assisted, tienen el mejor equipo, manejan grupos pequeños y tienen los mejores guías. Esta actividad puede ser para principiantes con cierta experiencia hasta para ciclistas expertos.
This adventure starts early in the morning in La Paz, the tour company will drive you to La Cumbre, located at 4700 masl, an amazing landscape and also very cold, over there you will try the bikes and all the equipment, the guides will give you a briefing and you will descend the asphalted road, the guide will check all the time if you are ok and will make some stops to enjoy the views and tell you how is going to be the road on the next stage.
Esta aventura comienza temprano por la mañana en La Paz, el tour operador lo llevará a La Cumbre, a 4700 msnm, el paisaje es increible y hace bastante frio. Una vez alla puede probar el equipo y las bicicletas, el guía dara una charla a todos y luego descenderán por el camino asfaltado, el guia estará viendo como les va y se harán algunas paradas para observar el paisaje y decirles como es la siguiente parte del camino.
After a snack you will start the next section of the ride, you will enter to the jungle area, this is the longest and most challenging part of the ride. The narrow dirty road is next to the mountains, there are cliffs and big drops on your left, some water falls on your right, a few trucks, clouds, dust,vegetation and an amazing landscape ! You need to have good attitude, be careful, listen to your guides and dont do stupid things, this is not a race. The guides will always checking if you are ok, making stops to tell you how are the next stages of the road and telling you if a truck is coming or if you need to be more careful. The tour operator also has a bus going behind you just in case you dont feel well and they also have all the security equipment. The majority of the trucks doesnt use this road anymore because there is a new one, but you have to always be careful.
Luego de un snack comienza la siguiente parte de la excursión, esta es en la selva, es la parte más larga y dificil, pero la más retadora. El camino es angosto, lleno de piedras y tierra, a un lado de las montañas, hay precipicios al lado izquierdo, cascadas a la derecha, neblina, polvo y un paisaje espectacular. En está aventura uno debe tener siempre una buena actitud, tener cuidado, escuchar y confiar en los guías y no hacer tonterías, no es una carrera. Los guías siempre estarán viendo si uds. estan bien, haciendo paradas para explicar como será las siguientes partes del camino, si hay algún camión viniendo o si debe ser más cuidadoso. El bus del tour operador estará siempre detrás de ustedes por si es que no se sienten bien y tienen todo el equipo de seguridad. La mayoría de camiones ya no usa este camino ya que ahora existe uno nuevo, pero siempre hay que tener cuidado.

As you get closer to the end the weather is going to be warmer and you are going to be tired ,covered in mud and dust. The end is at the village of Yolosa, at 1100 masl., you will finish the ride here and have the chance to visit the rescue center La Senda Verde, have a cold beer, lunch and a shower, the guides will offer you a cd with pictures of the trip and a free T-shirt, you can relax here and in the afternoon the bus will take you all the way back to La Paz, you will take the same road you came down. After get to La Paz you will be tired but thats not an excuse to dont go to the bar for a few cold beers !
Al llegar al final el clima será mas caluroso y se sentirá cansado, sucio y cubierto en polvo. El final es en la villa de Yolosa, a 1100 msnm., aca se termina esta aventura y podrá visitar el centro de rescate La Senda Verde, tomar unas cervezas, almorzar y ducharse, los guias le ofreceran un cd con las fotos del viaje y una camiseta gratis, luego de descansar el bus lo llevara de regreso a La Paz tomando el mismo camino que vino. Luego de llegar a La Paz seguramente se sentirá cansado, pero esa no es excusa para ir por una cervezas a algun bar.
